What ages do you teach?

All ages! We have special baby swimming classes for the little ones as from 6 months old, all the way up to adult non-swimmer groups.

Why should a child start swimming that early?

Safety in and around the water is reason number one, but research also shows that swimming has a positive influence on children's cognitive, physical and mental development as well as on their social skills.

Where do you teach?

Our own facility in Cascavelle (industrial zone) in a heated indoor pool.

Will you expand to other regions?

Unfortunately not in the near future. Please register to our newsletter.

Do you offer trial lessons?

As it is normal for children to be a bit hesitant in the first lesson (considering the fact that it's a new environment and new teachers), we highly recommend to give your child a bit of time and allow them to progress in their own time. We therefore don't have trial lessons, but you are also not bound by long-term contracts.

I'm on the waiting list. What does that mean?

We try to accommodate you and your children at a day/time convenient to your agenda, but as we teach in small groups, your preferred class might be fully booked. If you leave us your phone number, we'll contact you as soon as a suitable space becomes available.

How long does it take to get a space?

Unfortunately we can't answer this question. A space becomes available, only if a child leaves our group. As we don't have a fixed course duration and offer intakes all year round, we can't give a time-frame, but we try our very best to find a solution for you as soon as possible.

Parents in the pool? I don't know how to swim...

No worries! Children up to the age of 2.5 years will have to be accompanied in the water by a parent. We will work in the shallow end of the pool where you can stand and our instructors are there to help you. 

We also offer adult swimming lesson in case you would like to learn to swim ;-)

Are Dads allowed in the pool as well?

Yes, it will be mixed classes. 

​

Which language are the classes taught in?

Our team speaks English, French, Creole, German, Afrikaans ... :-) We always have two instructors in the pool and try our best to organize to teach in English & French simultaneously.

What to bring for the first lesson?

• Appropriate swim wear, meaning a properly fitting bathing suit for girls and shorts + top for boys. Most parents, especially of our younger children, opt for one-piece swimsuits (pants + top in one). No bikinis, swim wear that's too large or street wear please. Same also goes for the parents.

• Children who are not potty trained need to wear swimming diapers. Same are available in all bigger super markets or directly at the Swim School.

• Swimming caps for the student as well as for the accompanying parent if you'll be in the pool. Swimming caps are available for sale at the Swim School.

• Towel and warm clothes to wear after the lesson

• Island Swim School supplies all other swimming equipment such as pool noodles, kick-boards or life-jackets.

Are the children allowed to wear goggles?

We would prefer if they don't, until they learn how to swim. It is important for them to get used to the feeling of having some water in their eyes. We pay highest attention to the pool chemistry in order to avoid irritations of the eyes. If you choose to buy goggles, please invest into good quality ones.
